City Rules II, Berlin, Germany- 2016
Public space in a city is defined and does not come into being by itself, since a city is divided among landowners. This space is lent to the population – to people who are considered as an organized society, as members of the state and as potential consumers. There is an agreement that the public space belongs to the people, and in return they are subject to the state with its laws and regulations. City rules II is a project in which artistic interventions were realized in the public space of the district of Lichtenberg within 4 days. One of the basic conditions was to realize interventions with as little financial means as possible that did not require legal permits or were on the borderline of such permits. The works documented in this booklet bear witness to an impressive variety of individual forms of expression in dealing with urban space.
